Clinical Supervision Program
Clinical Supervision Program
Overview
The Student Support and Attendance Services (SSAS) Clinical Supervision Program (CSP) provides opportunities for SSAS department personnel to enhance their clinical knowledge and skills. Clinical supervision is voluntary, provided at no cost, and available based on programmatic need, as well as supervisor availability. Personnel must be registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) to participate as either an Associate seeking clinical supervision or as a licensed Clinical Supervisor providing supervision. The disciplines that the CSP supports are: Associate Clinical Social Workers (ASW), Associate Marriage and Family Therapists (AMFT), and Associate Professional Clinical Counselors (APCC).
Purpose
The SSAS CSP serves three essential functions:
- To ensure the integrity of clinical services and to protect the welfare of students/families by adhering to the ethics and standards of clinical practice.
- To enhance the supervisee’s clinical professional skills, knowledge and attitudes to achieve competency in providing quality care to students/families.
- To provide a structured environment for reflection, learning, and ethical decision-making, ultimately enhancing both the supervisee's skills and recognizing staff as experienced leaders of clinical practice and professional consultants.
Participation Requirements
Clinical supervision is not required for SSAS staff, however, professional development in clinical practice is highly valued. As such, the Clinical Supervision Program maintains the following procedures to ensure alignment to District policy as well as with the BBS requirements.
To be eligible to participate as an Associate or Supervisor, the following criteria must be met:
- Must be registered and active with the BBS
- Must obtain approval from their respective program administrator and work-site administrator
